Fashion Revolution 2020
Fashion Revolution is a not-for-profit global movement which campaigns for systemic reform of the fashion industry, with a focus on the need for greater transparency in the fashion supply chain. Since 2017 they have hosted Fashion Open Studio, a week-long showcase of presentations, talks, studio visits and workshops, to celebrate the people and processes behind making clothes. Usually this would be a series of physical events taking place around the world, but in light of the current circumstances Fashion Revolution decided to take the programme online. The result of this was a fantastic series of online talks, workshops, and conversations; able to be accessed globally, mostly for free, and digitally archived for future viewers.
Here at Print Clan sustainability within the textile industry is one of our driving forces, so we leapt at the chance to be involved in Fashion Open Studio. We planned a series of physical workshops to take place at our High Street studio, in collaboration with fellow Glasgow-based ReJean Denim. ReJean is a sustainable fashion brand, which makes use of reclaimed fabrics, to make gorgeous jackets and accessories. We absolutely love the work that Siobhan does and it’s been great working together – we hope it’s the start of a long alliance.
Siobhan kicked off the day with a Mend & Patch workshop, where we used traditional Japanese techniques Sashiko & Boro to fix our clothes. In the afternoon it was our turn, and Arianna hosted a Draw Your Own Print workshop, where we went through a series of drawing exercises to tap in to our inner designers.
