Equality, Diversity & Inclusion Policy

Print Clan CIC is an inclusive textile screen printing studio. Our mission is to provide equitable access to textile screen printing resources that nurture creativity and contribute to wellbeing. We accommodate social, design and fine art based projects by offering access to screen printing resources and training.

Values

Our values reflect a commitment to creating a more inclusive, equitable, and sustainable world while prioritising the wellbeing of individuals and communities.

  • Accessibility – all people should have equitable access to our services and resources regardless of background, ability, or socio-economic status.

  • Community – all members of our community matter and belong in our network. We all benefit when we support each other.

  • Inclusivity – everyone should feel valued and respected in our spaces. We create welcoming environments and accommodate people with diverse needs.

  • Environmental sustainability – we minimise our environmental impact and promote practices that contribute to reaching net zero carbon emissions.

  • Wellbeing – we value the physical, mental and psychological wellbeing of our staff and members. We support our people to develop a sense of belonging and maintain resilience.

  • Learning – we value creative learning and nurture a culture of personal growth, exploring new ideas, acquiring new skills and supporting people to reach their full potential.

  • Affordable – no-one should be excluded from creative opportunities due to financial constraints.

Aims

Print Clan is committed to welcoming people of all backgrounds to the workshop and on external courses or events. Our team strives to treat everyone equally regardless of age, disability, socio-economic status, sex, gender reassignment , sexual orientation, race, ethnicity or nationality, pregnancy or maternity, religion or belief, marital status or civil partnership.

All staff members, volunteers, workshop users and customers will be made aware of this commitment.

Accessibility

Our studio, located at 241 High Street, is unfortunately not currently accessible for wheelchair users. Access is limited by the narrow width within the studio, due to equipment and building constraints. The building does not have an accessible toilet and there is no room for adaptations. To address this short-term, we host events outside the studio at accessible locations across Glasgow, including through regular weekly ‘Print Club’ sessions in Govanhill and Easterhouse.

We have one toilet on site which is gender neutral. Sanitary products are provided free of charge.

Inclusion & Respect

Anyone over the age of 16 with previous textile printing experience can become a member of Print Clan, and we encourage applications from a diverse range of people.

We offer a beginners course to people wanting to learn printmaking skills to then become eligible for membership. We have various workshops and courses open to anyone, and try to make these as affordable as possible.

We are aware of the privilege and inaccessibility of the arts, and are committed to providing screen printing workshops and activities to people from marginalised backgrounds. We actively work with third sector organisations around Glasgow to provide opportunities through our Wellbeing Programme, and aim to engage with diverse communities on both short and longer-term bases.

We aim to make everyone feel welcome at our studio and any external workshops or events. Sexist, racist, homophobic, transphobic or otherwise offensive and inflammatory remarks and behaviour are not acceptable. These constitute harassment, and will not be tolerated by the Print Clan team.

EDI training opportunities will be provided to all Print Clan staff periodically.

Dealing with Discrimination & Harassment

Print Clan will challenge any behaviour in breach of the Equality & Diversity policy, and reserve the right to terminate the membership or employment of any person as a consequence of this. Staff and volunteers should refer to our Disciplinary Policy for more details.

If any member, studio user or workshop participant feels that they have been discriminated against in any way, by either a fellow user or a member of Print Clan, they should raise this with Arianna Mele, a member of the Print Clan team or our Board of Directors. Staff and volunteers should refer to our Grievance Policy for more details.

Print Clan’s Board of Directors will investigate the incident, listening to all involved parties. If the complaint is against a member of the team, that person will not be part of conducting the investigation. We will respond and act upon the complaint as appropriate and in a timely manner.

If the complaint is against Print Clan as a whole, we will work to ensure that such discrimination is not repeated in the future, and will inform members of how we propose to do this. Print Clan will support people who feel they have been harassed or discriminated against, and will not victimise or treat them less well because they have raised this.

Future Aims

Following the completion of Print Clan’s Business Plan for 2025-2028, we have identified key objectives to improve on our commitments to equality, diversity & inclusion as the organisation continues to grow.

  1. Accessibility: Move to an accessible studio in 2026/7 which allows people with disabilities to become full Print Clan members.

  2. Affordability: Introduce a tiered membership pricing system in 2025/6 with a new concession rate for low income/benefits/disability, and a fully subsidised rate for 10 Print Club/Wellbeing Programme members in 2027/8.

  3. Diversity: Ensure that the characteristics of our staff, members and volunteers are reflective of our diverse community through EDI monitoring and annual reviews with the Board of Directors.

  4. Representation: Hold regular formal and informal consultations with our members including annual membership meetings to help shape and improve the organisation.

  5. Inclusion: From 2025/6 we will actively widen our recruitment channels in order to attract individuals from groups that are traditionally underrepresented in the arts. We will continue to review the diversity of our workforce to see if this has had a positive impact.

This policy was created in July 2020 and will be reviewed twice annually.
